Standing water in the bottom of a dishwasher after the cycle ends almost always means a failed drain pump or a clogged drain filter. Start with the filter — a basket at the base of the tub that catches food debris. Remove it, clean it under running water, and reinstall. If water still stands after a cycle, the drain pump has failed. Bosch drain pumps are especially prone to this failure between years 5 and 8 of service.
Dishes that come out dirty usually point to clogged spray arm holes, a failed wash pump, or a failed water inlet valve. Check the spray arms first — remove them and rinse each hole under running water.
