A disposal that hums but doesn't spin has a jammed impeller. Locate the hex socket on the bottom of the unit. Insert a hex key and work it back and forth until the impeller breaks free, then press the red reset button.
This means the internal motor seal has failed. Generally not worth repairing — we carry replacement units and can swap the disposal quickly, including proper flange sealing.
